The AK-15 is a variant of the AK-12 chambered for the 7.62×39mm cartridge. Both the AK-12 and AK-15 were developed by the Kalashnikov Group as part of the "Ratnik" ("Warrior", Russian future infantry combat system) program, and have been accepted into Russian military service.

The development of the assault rifle ran alongside the AK-12, however the AK-15 is chambered in 7,62x39mm, instead of 5,45x39mm. In 2020, the AK-15 recieved a final update to bring it up to newer AK-12, or AK-19 standards. The AK-15 is capable of fitting the 6Ch61 suppressor.
